Data Search Enquiries

We can provide you with data about species records, habitats and wildlife sites in Berkshire and Oxfordshire.

We can provide:
◊ Boundaries of sites of wildlife importance (statutory & non-statutory)

◊ Descriptions of sites of wildlife importance (not available for all sites)

◊ Records for legally protected species

◊ Records for designated but not legally protected species

◊ Records for any species

◊ Information on habitats including UKBAP habitats

TVERC may make a charge for time taken to provide information and advice, though this can be waived in many cases. For commercial searches we charge a standard fee of £75 for any search that requires up to 1 hour to extract the required data. After that we charge £75 per hour for any additional time to carry out the search. Most searches will cost between £75 and £150, depending on your requirements.

Single species and bat searches: we are trailing a free service for such requests where we will respond by email with a brief summary of the information available. This will provide an idea of how many records there are, how close they are to the centre of the search and how old the records are. This will give consultants an idea on whether they need to proceed with a paid survey. The form mentioned below provides a box which should be ticked if this option is required. We will still need this form to be filled in for search requests.

If you would like us to perform a data search for you, these are the steps that will take place:

  1. Please download and fill in the form TVERC Data Search Form 2010.rtf. Commercial search requests must be made using this form as it helps us process requests more efficiently. The form will give us all the information that we need to get going with the search. Please note that some of the information you have been asked for (for example, the reason for the request) will provide us with valuable information for our own statistics.

  2. Please send us the completed form by post, fax or by email to datasearch@tverc.org. Please do not send search requests to individual members of TVERC staff as this may lead to delays in responding to your request.

  3. Please also send us a map (by any of the above methods) marking on it the boundaries of the site of interest. This is to ensure that there can be no misunderstanding about where the site is located.

  4. We will then process the form and send you an Information Request Quote Form which sets out clearly the information we will be providing you with, our conditions of data use, and if applicable a quotation for the work. This form is generally sent by email, and once signed can be returned to us by fax or post. If the form contains a quote, then signing the form constitutes acceptance of the quote.

  5. We will normally send you the results of your search within 10-15 working days of receipt of the signed Information Request Form. If you need the data quicker than this then please make sure your deadline is on the original Data Search Form. We may need to charge extra to deal with urgent data searches. We cannot guarantee that we will be able to provide this quick response service.

  6. If applicable, the invoice for the work will be sent to you separately.
