Chinese Mitten Crab Records Required

The Marine Biological Association are looking for records of 24 marine Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS). These data will be crucial in determining the UK’s success in limiting the spread of INNS.

Not being a coastal records centre means that these kinds of records are not usually submitted to us, but they are interested in records of the Chinese Mitten Crab (Eriocheir sinensis) which travels upstream into freshwater habitats. There have been a few records recently from Eastern and Central areas of England (the closest confirmed records to Oxfordshire is in Reading (in the Kennet and Avon Canal) and in the Bristol Channel near Portishead).  Any potential sightings to be sent (ideally with a photograph of the specimen) via
