TVERC provide you with the three datasets relating to protected and notable species:

1. Planning Consultation Species

2. Protected & notable species records

3. Protected & notable species background info.

What are "protected & notable" species?

We use the following designations for the species data we provide to you:

  • Conservation of Habitats and Species Regulations 2010
  • Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 Birds, Animals and Plants
  • NERC Act 2006 Priority Species
  • Global and National JNCC Red List Species
  • Nationally Notable Invertebrate Species
  • Nationally Rare or Scarce Species
  • Birds of Conservation Concern (BOCC)
  • Local BAP Species

Which data set should I use?

What if there are no species records in the area I’m interested in?

A lack of records should not be taken as confirmation of the absence of a species in the area. All it means is that no-one has recorded that species yet (or no-one has given TVERC the record).

A judgement on whether there is likely to be an impact on a protected or notable species should take into account the surrounding habitat and the type of work being proposed.

If in doubt, consult your in-house ecologist.

Where does the data come from?

We collect data from professional and volunteer surveyors, which are carefully checked so that the information we provide to you is accurate.

If you spot wildlife when you’re out and about, or you receive sightings from the public or ecological consultants reports, it would be fantastic if you could share then with us.

These records will increase the quality and quantity of data we hold so email them to  tverc@oxfordshire.gov.uk

You can find out where a species record came from by checking the ‘Data Origin Key ’ code.
