TVERC Data management volunteer

Where: TVERC, Signal Court, Old Station Way, Eynsham, Oxfordshire OX29 4TL

This office-based volunteer opportunity would suit someone who can conveniently travel to Eynsham.

About the opportunity

A volunteer is required to assist TVERC with a variety of different data management tasks.

You could get involved in:
1.    Data validation (checking data supplied in the form of Excel spreadsheets to make sure there is sufficient information for a valid record and that grid references are provided and are correct)
2.    Extracting species data from survey reports into excel spreadsheets ready for data entry.
3.    Data logging: Logging newly arriving data sets. Recording their details in our data log spreadsheet and placing into the correct place in our data management system
4.    Assisting with improving the quality of records already held in our database, principally editing taxon comments to make them more relevant.
5.    Checking historic paper based site survey data to check whether it is already in our database. When needed, entering the above into our database and filing it in the appropriate place.

Thames Valley Environmental Records Centre (TVERC) collects, analyses and shares geodiversity and biodiversity information in Berkshire and Oxfordshire to help people make sound decisions about how to develop and manage land sustainably and where to direct wildlife conservation work. We are a busy team so we welcome keen volunteers to join us in the office.

TVERC provides information to local authorities, parish councils, local people, conservation bodies, land-owners, agencies, students and commercial organisations such as ecological consultants and utilities companies via data searches, data licensing and data exchanges. About two-thirds of the data held by TVERC is provided by amateurs and volunteers.
