TVERC training

TVERC provides training for habitat and species surveys, biological recording and identification and in the use of GIS. 

Training is currently provided in two main formats. Firstly TVERC run an annual training programme of courses to teach survey skills, which are primarily aimed at beginners, see below.

However, TVERC can also offer bespoke training for organisations and projects to train people in biological recording and surveys skills. For a case study example of a bespoke TVERC training package see training local people as part of the Newbury Renewal Project. TVERC Training Course Programme 2017

TVERC training courses help train volunteers to improve identification skills and knowledge of a range of priority habitats and species. These introductory training courses are run by expert ecologists and aimed at beginners.  Courses cover basic ecology, relevant legislation, identification features and survey techniques.  They generally involve both indoor and outdoor sessions. You can book for individual courses or all.

  • Bumblebee identification and field techniques, 30th April 2017 NEXT COURSE!
  • Introduction to bird survey techniques, 13th May 2017
  • Introduction to invertebrate sampling, 10th - 11th June 2017
  • Hedgerow surveying, 16th September 2017
  • Otter ecology and surveying, 4th November 2017

For each course TVERC offers a couple of subsidised places for students at a rate of £30 on a first come first served basis.
