Tern nesting raft success!

TVERC field survey volunteers Dave Lowe and Emma Lenz have successfully completed a project to re-instate Common Tern nesting rafts on Hinksey Lake. They have been carrying out regular bird surveys at the lake for TVERC, including monitoring the tern colony, and observed the existing raft had fallen into disrepair.

Following a successful grant application to the Trust for Oxfordshire's Environment (TOE) to repair the raft and add a second, they observed terns inspecting the rafts the same day of installation. Latest reports are that the terns are incubating eggs and we are all hopeful for a successful breeding season thanks to Dave and Emma’s proactive efforts.
